Customer Reviews

Like many reviewers hereLike many reviewers here, I ran into this amazing coffee at a the la feria, or maybe even at the M s x Menos or Maxi Pali In Costa Rica(psst. Walmart owns these).I picked up 5 packs of these for like 8 dollars US and they last me nearly six months. These are considered mid-range budget coffee, but still taste amazing, and are a great alternative to Cafe brit if you are not into the whole abuse of labor and tolken economy they have been known to employ.Worth it!!!5BIB BAG Coffee Beans :)BIG BAG of coffee beans. :) I am drinking a cup right now. Second time this week I used in coffee maker and still impressed with taste and quality.I buy beans locally from vendors at Farmer's Market & coffee shops. I buy directly from various coffee bean suppliers on their websites. I prefer fair trade, organic etc but I am not a coffee snob and will not only drink one brand or use beans coming from only one source. I read reviews and generally make decisions from those. Reviewers said good things about this brand "Cafe 1820 whole bean from Costa Rica" and I totally agree. Thanks for the heads up...I recommend 1820 too...if you enjoy a good cup of coffee (whatever you use to make it with) I think you might like this.4My favorite coffeeOn the advice of a pleasant young man at the airport mall while waiting to leave Costa Rica I tried Cafe 1820. He said it was the most popular citzen's coffee in Costa Rica. It's has been my favorite med-light roast for several decades. Was hard to get and was very expensive. Nice to be able to get it on Amazon now. Still as expensive as a bag of Starbucks though. Worth trying. Who knows? You might like it.5We all loved it so much that I now order it onlineI started drinking this coffee while on vacation in Costa Rica and brought some home for employees. We all loved it so much that I now order it online. It's the only coffee I keep in the house. I don't generally like really strong coffee, but this is the exception. It's strong but not acidic (which is what makes strong coffee taste bad to me) and it's very smooth.5Buy LocalI love Cafe 1820, having purchased it for between $2.00-$3.00 at every local store in Costa Rica when I am there. While visiting the USA I have purchased Cafe 1820 numerous times through Amazon. After my most recent purchase jumped from $9.00 to $11.99 and took 12 days to get to me, I am done with ordering Cafe 1820 while in the US. I highly recommend Cafe 1820 to you when you visit Costa Rica. I have tried all the local brands and I prefer Cafe 1820 even though it is one of the least expensive coffees in Costa Rica. For me it is never bitter, and I brew it strong, it has a pleasant after taste (just like coffee) and is consistent with every bag I buy. I only gave it 3 stars because of the high price, and the potentially slow delivery. The coffee itself is great3Costa Rican Coffee - Available at homeDuring my last visit to Costa Rica we loaded up on this coffee for our trip home. Brit is great too, but 1820 is a great value for the money. Now obviously it's much cheaper to buy it down there, but all things considered the 2.2lb bag is a good buy compared to what you can get in the states. It's $9-10/lb which is less than Starbucks or Gevalia and it's much better coffee. It's delicious black, very smooth and not acidic. The Costa Rican government actually regulates coffee growers very strictly, and so even budget coffee from there is top shelf by American standards. Give this a shot, you'll love it!5Best coffee everThis is the best coffee in the world, of course I'm Costa Rican, but I come from a long line of coffee growers and will tell you that this is a smooth coffee and one of the best sellers in Costa Rica.5Not horrible, but not a light roast. This is a dark medium roast coffee. I don't know why they advertise it as a light roast, but when I opened it and looked at the grounds which were darker than dark chocolate, I knew I was getting a 2nd crack roast. There is a recent trend of marketing dark medium roast coffees as light roast and it really needs to stop. I can't say this coffee tastes bad for a medium dark coffee, but that's not what I purchased. Either learn to roast your beans correctly, or else learn to label your product correctly. There's no excuse for this.If I went to a restaurant and ordered a rare steak and got some hard charcoal half burned mess, I'd immediately send it back. Kind of hard to do that with Amazon eats and drinks, but something needs to happen in regards to the mislabeling of coffee products.Again, decent coffee if I had ordered a medium dark roast.BUT NOT A LIGHT ROAST!Don't buy this product if you're looking for a light roast coffee.2This is NOT a medium roast coffee--it's very dark and has that awful burnt taste.I almost never give a bad review, but this time is different. This coffee is advertised as being a MEDIUM roast from Costa Rica, which is what I was looking for. Instead, it's a VERY-DARK roast coffee, with the BURNT TASTE I personally hate in all dark roast coffees. I could have bought the same thing almost anywhere for a lot less money, like "Espresso Roast", "French Roast", etc. This coffee will either be given to a friend, since he says he likes a dark roast, or will be thrown in the trash. Amazon and the seller need to correct their ad, PLEASE.1Our favorite coffeeWe discovered this coffee the first time we went to Costa Rica in 2004. Since then we've gone every few years and have always taken an extra duffel just to load up on this coffee and Lizano. Last November we ran out of time and didn't get to the Supermercado to load up. Once we were back home we were really missing our coffee. On a whim I searched Amazon to see if they had it (because Amazon has EVERYTHING) and to our great joy found out I can now order both whenever we run out! Pura Vida!5
