Good but not amazingI tried Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee at a local roaster. The beans were $17.95/lb and fair trade from a grower in Ethiopia. I was floored by how distinct this coffee was. Incredible strawberry and pleasantly acidic. Really a very unique cup of coffee. But for that price, I couldn't make it my daily brew.I found this product on Amazon and figured why not. It arrived quickly and beans seem fresh with a light to medium roast and a slight layer of oil. The smell is wonderful, fresh roasted coffee with a little fruit. However, the brew is only OK. For a morning coffee, it is just fine, and now that I have had it 5 or 6 times, it is growing on me quite a bit. There are definitely hints of what I got from that first cup from the local roaster, but no where near as intense. Maybe that's better, as that could get on my nerves every day.I don't know if it's a case of "you get what you pay for" or just variations from one grower to the next. But overall, good coffee that flirts with uniqueness, but is pretty run of the mill.4My Ideal CoffeeThis coffee is nearly identical in flavor to the Yirgacheffe coffee that I get at my local Ethiopian restauarant, and has become my go-to coffee for all occasions. We have had guests who are only occasional coffee drinkers, who have drank considerably more coffee when they stay with us to visit. Have to agree, personally, as my daily intake has risen since finding this coffee, too.Cupping notes are really straightforward. Expect a mild roast with a bit of peach in the finish, exactly as described. The roast is consistent, and whenever I order, it is very fresh. There should be a small sticker on the bag that contains the Julian calendar day. You can just ask Google "what is the xTH day of the year", and it will tell you exactly what that roast date is. Mine have always been roasted within two weeks, or less, at the time of delivery. That is considerably less time than what you are going to buy retail, most of the time.Even with the recent price increase, I still plan on continuing to get this coffee. It is too good to go through the process of finding something else that compares.5Superb, Quality CoffeeThe original coffee! A perfect, medium roast coffee with a bright, fruity flavor, hints of citrus. Great for a breakfast pickup or evening nightcap - one of the most versatile coffees I've tasted. Also works great for espresso - loaded my Breville Touch and it consistently produces an excellent brew with just the right packed density for a moderately dark espresso or mild cappuccino. Someone mentioned similar to Kona, but it has a unique flavor all its own, well worth trying, and it's my almost exclusive brew now. Highly recommended!5Good coffeeEthiopian coffee? Never knew they grew coffee. Recently I bought a percolator and since then I have been interested in tasting different gourmet coffees. This coffee offers a bold flavor. I am not as a professional conesauer as other coffee drinkers and cannot say I taste the hint of lemon and honey. Just to me is a really good coffee worth the price to treat myself. Came in perfect wrapping. Was fresh and had an unbelieveable smell when I opened it. I'll be ordering more for sure!5Good flavored coffeeI've been buying the Yirgacheffe coffee from my local roasters at nearly $18 a pound for the last few years. Wonderful coffee, but the price this was getting out of hand.While this is not quite the same, it does have a very nice flavor, and to me a touch more caffeine (lighter roast). Overall it was pretty easy to adapt to.I've been paying about $23 for two bags with free shipping, but notice recently the price went up and they are now charging $10 for shipping, even with prime membership.So, my main reason for buying was the value for a similar tasting coffee that I can buy locally, but if the price remains elevated I will discontinue. An extra $5.00 per lb is a big rate increase.4... well over a year and it has been consistently wonderful. HoweverI have been drinking this coffee for well over a year and it has been consistently wonderful. However, the last batch I received on 1/12/18 is nowhere near the quality I m used to. The coffee smelled stale upon opening, the beans were over roasted, and I ve been struggling to enjoy my sacred morning coffee ever since. Highly disappointed, and won t be reordering this product. I m stuck with almost 5lb of very unpleasant coffee.2Perfect for iced coffee pourovers in a ChemexI blend this fruity, citrusy coffee bean from Fresh Roasted with Starbucks House medium roast in my Chemex to make exceptional iced coffee pourovers. The blend I use is 65% of this awesome Ethiopian Yerg with the rest house roast. They match perfectly. The Yerg provides that classic iced coffee/cold brew fruity sweetness, and the Starbucks house blend gives it just enough strong coffee backbone. I've also used this yerg for cold brew many times, and it is perfect for that too. Tastes just like you get at that expensive coffee chain. This coffee is sold at a fantastic price too! I will also say I have not noticed any flavor dropoff in these beans as it takes me a few months to go through the 5 pound bag. If you follow my pourover recipe, grind the beans to the Very Fine drip setting as you want the extraction to happen faster because you are using half the water of a normal hot brew. This is because you want the coffee dripping on ice cubes in the Chemex so their oils instantly cool and stop degrading (which causes stale coffee taste in a standard pot of hot coffee). For a 30 oz iced coffee I use 45-48 grams total in coffee beans at the 65% Yerg/35% House ratio. I use about 350 grams of ice cubes in my Chemex, add a rinsed filter, put the finely ground coffee beans in the filter, reset the scale to 0 grams and add 450 grams of boiling water. The ice flash chills the coffee, giving it a splendid iced coffee taste and preserving its delicious flavor.5Just sip it, and know that good coffee should taste like THIS does!Oh man I love this coffee! Smooth, with a flavor that doesn't sit heavily in your mouth. I have not found a coffee this good since a cousin sent home some fresh open air roasted ground direct from his place in Ethiopia. Because I can't buy decent coffee where I live, I order it. I'm SO happy to have found this! This is now my year round favorite! This Yirgacheffe is THE replacement from heaven. I drink it black, because to ruin it with cream & sugar would be sinful.5
