Customer Reviews

Just ok, but...Sadly, like many other reviews claim, these pods are definitely not as good as the Nespresso branded ones. Once and a while I seem to get a cup that tastes pretty good, however this is very inconsistent, maybe 1 in 5. I don't know if this is just my imagination or that some of these pods are "fresher" than others. The take home point, though, is that these pods are an acceptable, budget substitute for those just looking for a caffeine fix. If you want quick, easy, "good" espresso stick with the original ones.I have a couple ideas about what could be causing the inconsistency. One- it could be that time between roasting/grinding/sealing varies and that some pods end up in storage outside ideal conditions. Two- I've noticed that the foil on the pod is rarely ever evenly punched across it's surface after use. This could lead to uneven water flow through the pod and over/under extraction of some of the grounds.[Update] 9/18/15Gourmesso has contacted me regarding my experience and has offered a full refund. It's really nice to know that they stand by their product and that they are working on their quality control issues. Might give it another shot (bad pun, I know).4Perfectly drinkable but I probably won't reorderI enjoyed the variety of roasts included, although I wish they hadn't included a decaf in the default pack. I also have mixed feelings about including a ristretto - it may be different on other machine, but on my Nespresso Inissia, I have to recalibrate either the espresso or lungo buttons to produce a proper ristretto, since the default setting are 40ml/110ml whereas a proper ristretto is 25ml - I have the feeling most owners of Nespresso machines without a default ristretto setting are likely to just pull them as espressos, which, although it does not produce horrible results, also does not produce the intended result. The expiration dates on the packages in my order lead me to believe that they were roasted quite a while ago - and although still drinkable, more freshly roasted Nespresso alternatives really are noticeably better. Most of the blends are perfectly drinkable, and I'll certainly finish my order - I just won't likely reorder. There are too many competitors that produce better espressos at similar price points to do so.3Great start to my coffee day!I decided to try Gourmesso brand pods because I drink quite a bit of coffee every day and at Nespresso prices this can get a bit costly. I like to add 2 large button waters to mine for more of a coffee experience versus espresso, with lungo or stronger pods. I found them to be very good. I gave a few to my husband, who drinks an espresso every morning, before heading out the door for work. He said he really liked them and definitely didn't mind the change of brand. There have been some mention of other brands not breaking open. I have attached a picture that ALL my pods have come out successful (Gourmesso on the right). My girlfriend has a smaller, much cheaper, version of Nespresso (that would be a whole other review which would NOT be 5 stars at all) and occasional the pods would get stuck. I hesitate to even mention this as I think it was the machine being too small and after a few pods it was full or was out of water and sometimes there was pods issue. I don't think it was the product but the user and the machine. Maybe if reviewers have a smaller machine there could be problems? Mine is pretty standard but not fancy.5Aromas, cremas and Intensities are essentially on par with Nespresso capsulesFor single-cup espressos and cappuccinos, the aromas and intensities of these capsules are essentially on par with Nespresso products. The espressos do get about the same levels of cremas as Nespresso too. But if you make Lattes, or large-cup espressos, well, their intensities do suffer and they do taste a little "lighter" (some times "diluted") compared to Nespresso. But for the price, I still highly recommend these.5product changed -- ignore high ratings from before 2018I bought these pods several times in 2017 (directly from Gourmesso, and then several times from Amazon). However, in my last order, the packaging was changed -- the pods are now a hard plastic. I've only opened one box, and I've already had a stuck machine twice. That's a 20 percent fail rate. You can hear the parts in the machine creaking when it fails to discharge the pod. Not worth it to save cents on pods if it's going to cost dollars if they break/wear down the Nespresso machine. It's not the machine -- I still had some OEM Nespresso pods (never used up the decaf), and those work just fine. The old Gourmesso pods were fine too.I'm super bummed that this went from a 5 star to a 1 star product with a packaging change. Also bummed that I now have a bunch of pods I don't want to risk putting in my machine. So heads up that the old high ratings are for a different packaging! For Nespresso compatible pods, how the coffee is packaged in the pods is a big deal.1Poor quality assuranceIn the past, I have already rated Gourmeso's capsules and products and I remember loving them and being very generous on my comments. Things have changed now...I still think the coffee, flavors, and selection, are really good. My problem this time around is with their quality control or quality assurance team (either or). In order for any of these capsules to work well, they need to have a positive pressure in them. This is beneficial because it causes the sealing film to look inflated, which helps the Nespresso machines to effectively puncture the film allowing the hot water to infuse the coffee flavors before it is delivered to the mug. If this puncture does not happen effectively, then some water will not make it into the capsule, which ends up with a watered down cup of coffee. Sadly, the latter scenario is the most common with these capsules. The capsules are being delivered with flat and deflated filmes (see picture). They have to be more careful about the quality of their packaging, not just that of their coffee selection.2Surprisingly very satisfiedI think I finally found it! A great quality, yet less expensive alternative to Nespresso capsules! Actually I had almost given up after the last batch of Hi-Line and was ready to go back to the depressingly stiff Nespresso boutique (hate it) in Union Square in San Francisco when I thought I would give Gourmesso a shot. What a surprise! Unlike the Hi-Line that sputtered out a few drops and then basically quit producing a shot after a few seconds the Gourmesso caps behave just like a Nespresso cap -- shooting out yummy creamy espresso for as long as I want to pull the shot. With Nespresso I usually stuck to the Ristretto so I chose the darker Gourmesso bundle and couldn't be happier. For some reason I got free same day delivery, which is almost Big Brother scary, but that was an added bonus as it was friday morning and I had just run out of Hi-Line and was going to hit the Nespresso boutique later that day at lunch to begrudgingly buy more sleeves for the weekend. I can't stand going to the uptight boutique and dealing with the haughty sales peeps in suits who act like they work at Tiffanys and are doing you a favor by selling you overpriced coffee, so I have been searching high and low for a less expensive alternative with equal quality coffee and Gourmesso appears to be it. Every time I open the foil sealed package I hope it works and each time it does...lovely flowing streams of delicious crema and aroma, no sputtering, no dripping. With Hi-Line I ended up descaling my 2014 Nespresso Citiz twice just to make sure it wasn't my machine lagging. I would pop in a Nespresso cap and the flow would be perfect, so it had to be the Hi-Line caps. With Gourmesso the flow is forceful and perfect. I look forward to trying a few different blends to discover which will be my go-to fave. Highly recommended.5machine sounded like it was choking and the water stream from it ...I've used this coffee with my Nespresso machine since March drinking 2-3 cups a day. It's inferior to the original Nespresso.- Coffee is not smooth, has a stronger or weaker depending on the strength taste, but not as flavorful as Nespresso- Coffee pods are not exactly shaped as original ones, takes more force to close the lever- Pods are made of cheaper plastic and have cheaper feel to them- Coffee leaves tiny dots of grinds inside the cup and inside the machine. These grinds clog the machine and just simply unpleasant to taste.Today, when the coffee was in the make, machine sounded like it was choking and the water stream from it was uneven. I feel it has to do with the way the coffee is packaged inside the pod or the packaging itself.I paid around $.0.48/pod for Gourmesso. I have also tried 2 other brands from Bed Bath and Beyond at around $0.50/pod. All are inferior. With my recent Nespresso promo of buying 12 and getting 1 free, I've paid around $0.65/pod.I REALLY-REALLY wanted to save money, but not t the expense of the taste. The verdict: buy the original.2I have tried pretty much every brand of off brand Nespresso capsules that ...I have tried pretty much every brand of off brand Nespresso capsules that you can buy on Amazon, and this is BY FAR THE WORST BRAND you can get. Gourmesso capsules are terrible for multiple reasons.First, THEY DO NOT FIT Nespresso. The product page says they do, but they do not. Technically they do slide into your machine, but when you close the lid, you have to force the lid down harder than usual. Then when you start the brewing cycle, you always get straight water into your coffee cup because the shape of these capsules is NOT COMPATIBLE with your Nespresso machine. I read this comment from other reviews and thought people were just being picky given the number of 4 and 5 star ratings for this product. Turns out this is a true issue and I cannot fathom how this product has so many positive reviews unless the company has paid for positive reviews or created the positive reviews themselves.Second, the capsules often melt in the machine and deform during brewing. See related picture. I have shown what a fresh pod looks like (on the left) and examples of 2 other pods (on the right) that melted during brewing. This doesn't happen every time, but I have never seen this issue happen in other brands. Makes me wonder what sort of inferior material Gourmesso is using and what sort of plastic particulates are ending up in my coffee???Third, the coffee is weak. When you hold a new pod and shake it next to your ear, you can hear that there is quite a bit of empty space in the pod and they have duped you on the amount of coffee they are giving you. Combine this with the pure water that goes into your cup at the start of the brew due to the poorly shaped pod design as described above, and you end up with extremely watered down coffee.Summary: Avoid this product at all costs. Don t be suckered in by the lower cost per unit value or the general high ratings. Gourmesso pods are awful and easily the worst on Amazon as of 2017/2018.1Buy at your own risk. A waste of money!I ordered these as a hopeful less expensive option to the Nespresso brand. Never again. The packs break open & leave coffee grounds in my coffee. The strength of the coffee is also very questionable. I have tried 3 different of the flavors. VERY weak. When it is brewing, the color coming out of the machine goes almost clear very quickly. I had to put 3 of the pods in to equal close to the strength of one Nespresso brand pod. I had tried another alternative brand once, and it was much better than this.1
