Customer Reviews

Nice enough, unraveling stitchingVery comfortable. I have de quervain tenosynovitis (from ehler's danlos syndrome) causing pain in my thumb. I have a stiffer thumb splint but this one provides less support but more flexibility and comfort-- so it's nice for to wear while writing, typing, or using a smart phone. It also has padding on the palm side of the splint which adds even more comfort for the above mentioned activities.Overall it seems to be of pretty decent quality EXCEPT there are already loose threads coming out around the thumb opening 48 hours after I received the splint and after maybe 8 hours of wear (light wear indoors). Some other reviewers mentioned having similar issues, so I don't think that this is an isolated issue with the splint I received. It's a nice enough splint in terms of fit, comfort, and functionality that I plan to keep it and reinforce the stitching myself, but it's definitely an issue. 2Doesn't seem to really be for carpal tunnelAs others have said, this thing doesn't really work very well. I'm not really sure what it's supposed to be good for. It might be good for just a little bit of thumb support, but the cushion on the palm seems really strange, and I can't see it being the most sensible item (or even working at all) for carpal tunnel.I also ordered per measuring my hand as it stated, but it is still much too large, and I should have ordered down. 1Sizing is oddI have large hands for a girl, so I measured my hands according to the instructions and ordered a pair of large gloves. Too big! So I got the small instead, and it was perfect. They did exactly what I needed, the support was just enough to give my thumbs relief instantly and keep them from getting sore at work. The problem with them is that some of the stitching comes undone after a while, so I only got about 5-6 months use out of them. However, I did wear them several hours each day, 3-4 hour shifts just while I was at work. It took care of the pain, but I think I need to replace them since the pain is coming back, but I've been working longer hours so that might be part of the problem. In short, once you get the size right, they're great, but they don't take a ton of wear and tear.Edit: I should mention what kind of work I do so you get an idea of what kind of strain I was putting on the gloves. I'm a library page, which means lots of lifting and grabbing, and, the main reason I needed these gloves, opening and closing dozens of DVD and CD cases. Even pushing a cart of books around can put pressure on the thumbs. I have a bad habit of grabbing too many books at a time, so the restriction in these gloves helps a LOT. 4NOT FOR MEI found this product to be too uncomfortable, actually painful, to remove. I liked the concept, but it does not work for me. my thumb joints are painful and in pulling this off the hand, the discomfort (pain) was too much to repeat. I need something that wraps the hand and can be removed without putting pressure on the joint. The MUELLER Stabilizer (62712) provides the relief from pain and causes none. The IMAK came closer to a compression glove, but was far more painful than the arthritis compression gloves that I also use. For me, the MUELLER provides comfort and relief form pain and the IMAK caused more pain.I am sorry I cannot recommend this IMAK. It may work well for non-arthritic thumbs. No problems with the order, just in the use of the product. 1Not meant for Left HankDescription states "foam cushion under the wrist and palm protects the palm and wrist" . When put on left hand you have a cushion -with no purpose - on top of your hand - you could go 'McGyver' & turn inside out. Not really what I wanted. Tried it on my right hand - It did cushion my wrist but did not fit or protect my palm. I found it to be a bit cumbersome & not particularly comfortable -- awkward on either hand. Having no issues with my right wrist that may be an unfair assessment - definately would not recommend for left hand 2Flexible AND works for Left or Right Hand!I like this a lot splint a lot and I'm using it for computer keyboard work.It is a flexible splint, it gives a gentle support for the thumb. It does not constrict the rest of your fingers. This splint is not adjustable for fit so you need to order the correct size. It comes out of the box ready for use on the right hand. To use on the left hand, you must turn it inside-out, which is very easy to do. I'm using it on my left hand for my painful De Quervain's Tenosynovitis and it is helping. For sizing:I am apparently in between the Medium and the Large size for this splint. I normally wear a size small or medium in a unisex glove.I ended up buying both a Medium and a Large, to see which fit I liked best.I don't like tight fitting splints when you have to pull them on and off like a glove, because that hurts my wrist as I pull them off.The large felt perfect around my wrist, but it was a bit loose around the hand. The medium fits perfect around the hand, but it feels a bit too tight around my wrist. I am hoping that the medium size will stretch a bit around the wrist and then it will be perfect. Both sizes support my thumb. The medium is, of course, a bit sungger. The padding in both sizes seemed to be placed in an odd position for my hand, as I was expecting it to be more under my palm. The padding is sewn-in on one side of it, so you can't adjust it. Now that I'm more used to it, I see that the padding works well for when you are typing and rest the heel of your palm on the keyboard. It is comfortable.I haven't washed these yet but when I do, it says to just hand wash and air dry. Pretty simple. Conclusion: I recommend this splint for a folks who desire a lighter support with some flexibility. 5**NOT REVERSIBLE!!**DESPITE THE MANUFACTURER'S DESCRIPTION AND PACKAGING, THIS IS *NOT* REVERSIBLE! The seller was very prompt and it was a good price, but the manufacturer's description is wrong. There is a gel pad on the palm/inner wrist area that cannot be moved, so this item is RIGHT HAND ONLY as is, unless you want the fat pad on the back of your hand and the seams on your palm/inner wrist. It also runs quite snug. I measured well within the Medium size and can just get it on. It will stretch over time, but be aware. I have one from years ago, so I know this is the level of light thumb support I want, I just wish it was either truly reversible or came in right and left hand models. AGAIN, NO PROBLEMS WITH THE SELLER. 1They have good support of the hand alsoI have arthritis in the base of both thumbs. I wear these when I knit. I searched to find support gloves with the thumb sprint to replace a pair of craft gloves that needed replaced. They are holding up very well and I wear them every evening when I knit for a couple of hours. I had some by a craft company and they developed holes at the top of the thumb from the sprints. If you want both hands you buy two gloves and turn one inside out. They have good support of the hand also. I will definitely buy these again IF they ever wear out. 5Comfortable and light. Bit concerned though.I bought this stabilizer after returning another product which had velcro straps near the wrist and thumb. While the other stabilizer was bulky and uncomfortable, this one was great. The fit is comfortable and it is just like wearing a glove. There is thicker padding on the palm which is designed for additional comfort. I didn't find it good or bad. But I think it'll make my hand hot since the padding will be against my palm constantly. The rest of the glove seems to breathe well so no real concern there. The stabilizing mechanism is comprised of 2 inserts (I imagine they are plastic but can't confirm since they are sealed on the top part of the thumb) that are designed to minimize thumb flex. I find the support to be noticeable but not as strong as I imagined it to be. I might try to get more support by inserting popsicle sticks (or like items) but that will require me to open and seal the thumb area so not 100% sure yet. For the time being, I am lightly tapping my thumb with 1.5" sports tape and wearing the glove over it. This combo seems to really support the thumb without completely immobilizing my thumb. One thing I was concerned with is the way you put on the product. It is designed to wear like a glove. But the base opening of the product isn't as elastic as I think it should be. I had to put some effort in getting my hand in and it felt like I would tear the opening. If they made the opening a bit more flexible or adjustable, I think this would have been even better. All in all, good glove. Will purchase again. 5This glove allowed me to get back to work!I agree with Adrian that the glove begins to wear out very quickly. The plastic strips that stabilize the thumb began to poke out of the top of the glove after about 3 weeks. However, with a needle and thread it was easy to stitch around the top of the thumb opening to fix the problem. Obviously, one shouldn't have to do this after 3 weeks, but the glove helped my hand so much, that I'm willing to take the time to do it. I have spent hundreds of dollars in the orthopedist's office on braces and splints that either did not help me or that I couldn't wear while working. I'm a silversmith who makes jewelry so I use my hands to do a lot of precise work and this glove has been great as I can do almost all of my work with it on. I have ordered a couple of more and when they come I'm going to reinforce the thumb opening with a row of stitches before I wear them so they will hopefully last longer. For me there is just enough rigidity in the thumb of the glove to allow me to work pain-free while I work. Some people might not find the glove supportive enough, but it works great for me. 4
