Like Goldilocks...just right.First, the only way something is going to get 5 stars from me...if the item magically produced kittens riding unicorns with rainbows streaming from their butts.A little background: I own a Breville Barista Express (BTW - this machine is awesome - right combo of features and price) for about 16 months. It is used everyday, at least 2x per day to make espressos, caps, and/or lattes. We are a family of 5, with 4 members drinking espresso based drinks daily.I REALLY like these JO Espresso beans; I will continue to purchase - which is my seal of approval. I have tried several highly rated espresso beans here on Amazon (Kicking Horse, Lavazza, etc) and from local stores (World Market, Trader Joes, etc). My normalization basis is Starbucks (SB) espresso beans - which I equate to a "standard" whisky or beer that someone drinks on a regular basis. Though I am not a huge fan of SB coffee/espresso (tends to hoover on the bitter end), it is readily available (on every corner) and consistent (from bag to bag). The other espresso beans are "change-ups" from the everyday.This JO Espresso will be explored as my everyday bean. Why? Smooth, even taste from beginning to end (unlike some of the other beans I have ordered or purchased). Lack of bitterness, over-roasted flavor like SB espresso. Good, but not overwhelming earthy flavor (unlike Kicking Horse). Excellent crema. Grinds well/packs well (at different grind settings) and from a price point, is right on the money (pun intended). Don't get me wrong - some of the other brands I have tried were definitely fair to excellent and featured nuances and complexities similar to wines. But, for everyday drinking that has wide palette appeal - JO Espresso is becoming the one for us.4Pretty good.Updated from 2 stars to 4. Oddly enough, the seller below made me try one more method, slight under extraction. I updated the grind size to be a touch more coarse than any of my other beans, and slightly under extracted. Came out quite good. It's not the best espresso bean I've had, but for 10 bucks a bag it's solid. I'd recommend.This is my first product review, only writing it because an automated email from the seller prompted me to.I'm not going to pretend like i'm a coffee connoisseur, quite far from it. I've been drinking espresso for about a month, and I ordered these beans along with the Breville BES870XL.These were the first beans that I tried to brew with, and I literally made about 10-12 shots of espresso consecutively, as I didn't understand why it tasted so wrong. Finally, I went to a local coffee shop (Kahwa Coffee) and bought a bag of espresso beans and brewed a shot using the exact same process I used with Jo - lo and behold it tasted right. Subsequently, I ordered an additional bag from Blue Bottle, and it was fantastic!I don't know whether it's just my taste, but I am definitely not a fan of these and I'm not sure I will use them.Nothing wrong with the seller or shipping, just don't like the flavor.4Great Espresso BeansI've been starting my day with a few shots of espresso made using my Saeco Super Automatic espresso machine for many years now. I've experimented with many beans over the years, and it's been hit or miss (some are good, but are just too oily for my machine). My "go to" bean right now is Lavazza Super Crema. I love the taste, and the beans work perfectly in my machine. I was pleasantly surprised by the Jo Espresso beans. I knew nothing about the beans or the company that makes them, they just happened to be available "same day" along with the Lavazza beans I was ordering, so I added them to the order. These beans produce really great espresso. The crema is rich and consistent (more a function of the machine than the bean, I suppose), and lasts longer than it takes me to drink an espresso. The color of the crema is darker than the picture shows. I thought the flavor was really nice. As advertised, strong notes of dark chocolate, a really nice finish; velvety. I really like it with just a bit of sugar added as well (I know, that's blasphemous!). All and all, another great "go to" espresso bean that I'll be stocking.5Top of the LineI have professional Pasquini espresso machine, along with a Pasquini bean grinder. I have owned these two for 10 years.I have tried dozens of different espresso bean brands. None of them are as good at Jo Espresso. It is not bitter but instead it is pleasingly mellow. I am happy I have found this espresso bean vendor.5BEST. ESPRESSO BEANS. EVER.All I can say is...WOW! Our family bought an entry level DeLonghi espresso machine about 2 years ago now and, since then, have been buying what we thought to be quality beans for our at-home espresso beverages (LaVazza, Gloria Jean's to name a couple). Recently we ran out of the espresso beans we had been using and, on a whim, I purchased these ones from JO ESPRESSO. We were totally blown away by how great it is! We make the same beverages with it that we've been making for the past 2 years with other espresso brands and can easily tell the difference. This is a far superior espresso and the description of it is completely accurate: rich crema, heavy dark chocolate taste, elegant finish. And the price is somehow unbeatable! Highly recommended.5Gravel with beansThis was the fourth purchase we made of the exact item. We mainly like it because it is organic, the flavor too is good, if not great. This time, I found a piece of gravel embedded with stones in it. This possibly damaged the blade of my grinder, since I noticed it when preparing my coffee today.If I continue ordering it, I shall make sure to check the beans before I grind them.2Very nice, smooth coffee.I prefer the flavor of dark roast coffees. I don't like the "bright notes" which just taste acidic to me. This espresso medium/dark roast is beautifully rich and yet very smooth with a nice "no bright notes" finish. I use four little mini scoops of whole beans per cup. I grind them in a Capresso burr grinder and brew it up pour over style (an old Melita from the seventies actually, same thing) It makes a great cup of "Jo"I will buy this brand again and again.CheersTim5Not at ALL the Jo Espresso that I've known and loved! Not by a long-shot...This is definitely NOT my favorite, beloved coffee! I don't know what happened but it literally smells and tastes like a completely different coffee! The one I purchased for a couple years was a full-bodied coffee with caramel and chocolate undertones with crema and a smooth finish. This tastes earthy, tangy and sour. It's very bright and acidic. Pretty much the opposite of all my previous bags. I've read some of the comments here since tasting it and it says they have no control over the distribution age or things Amazon related but nothing addressing the flavor of the beans. I almost wonder if these got mixed in production with some sort of bad light morning blend or something. I am not pleased. I had previously given this five stars with a rave review. I'm on a tight budget so now I'm stuck with drinking a coffee I don't like (no returns) and can't get a new one to replace it. I don't even see where to contact the seller. This is so disappointing. The brewed color is even different. It's murky like putting a cheap drip grind into a french press. I used the exact same grind, measurements and timing as I always have. I'm writing this with cup in hand. I can't get over the terrible aftertaste even with a LOT of half and half it doesn't help it. I usually like this blend black because it's so creamy. Again. Very disappointing.1Had a rock in it and broke my espresso makerPreviously I left a positive review but upon using this product again my espresso beans had a ROCK in it which got stuck in my brand new $600 espresso machine that I just got for Christmas and it totally destroyed the motor. It won't even preform it's other functions anymore.1What a mistake! But there are other optionsI love espresso every morning. Peet s Major Dickinson as a fill in. Peet s Forte Espresso is nice. Kicking Horse Kick Ass is pretty solid, but not consistent, Henry s Bella Finca solid. Armeno great. Dillon s Double Dark always solid. Verena Shot Tower outstanding.This Jo is a terrible and does not remotely resemble the positive reviews. Maybe I got a bad bag, but there is a very unsettling off taste. Respecting those who enjoy this, there are many options from above that will remain my choices.1
