Very Bad Design!, This Shoulder Wrap is designed for the Right Shoulder. It is very difficult to put on the Left Shoulder without the help of another person.2. There are no written paper instructions included at all. What is needed is a simple small diagram showing how to put the wrap on. There are no written paper instructions regarding heating the Gel Packs, instead the instructions for heating the Gel Packs, which are not the easiest to read, are printed on the Gel Packs??.3. In 2017 where Microwaves have been in use for at least 30 years, the instructions on the Gel Packs say to Heat the Gel Packs submerged in Hot Water either Boiling it on a Stove or Heating the water with the Gel Packs submerged in it in a Microwave and then dried off before placing in the wrap pockets?? This makes no sense at all. Gel Packs should be able to be SIMPLY Microwaved directly in the microwave not while submerged in water. I used Hot Water in Muscle Wraps 40 years ago when I was in the Military. 1Difficult to wrap around left shoulder, and gel-packs are subparWhile this product was an extremely worthwhile investment, it's frustrating to see that both the gel packs and its usage on the left-shoulder could be greatly improved.The gel-packs form crystals and are uncomfortable to handle (tough plastic edges where welded shut). From what I can tell, the pockets in the shoulder strap are also far too insulating, which means the shoulder wrap is far from cool enough while wearing a t-shirt. My solution has been to just throw the included gel packs away and use the shoulder-strap to pin down a single higher quality gel pack (Hot and Cold Gel Pack 10" x 13").Also, the small strap is frustratingly difficult to put on while trying to use the wrap on my left arm. It requires stretching a thin neoprene strap up under my left arm where it's difficult to reach. I suspect that if the strap had been made an inch or two longer, this would have been _much_ easier to do since then it would be easy to get it set up loosely, after which the right arm could reach over the left shoulder to preposition the strap to tighten it. All that said, I could see this being much less of a problem when the wrap is on the right shoulder, since then the strap would be stretched from the back to the front of the wrap where it can be seen and more easily reached. Also, my left arm is neither flabby or muscled (actually, atrophied), yet the small strap is painfully tight when it's barely hanging on to the back. Why on earth is it so thin and short, while the large side-strap is appropriately wide and long? 4Fits perfectly, but sew a one line seam down the middle of the gel pack holding pouch :)I originally bought the Aircast gravity cooler with shoulder cuff attachment. The shoulder cuff got nice and cold, however the cuff wasnt able to lay flat on my shoulder socket specifically. I'm a female at 5'7" 135lbs, this meant that my shoulder stature wasn't large enough for the Aircast shoulder cuff to lay on my fresh post surgery rotator cuff repair because the cuff had a gap of space from where it touched on the collar bone and then on the bicep. Needless to say I got really worried inflammation/healing was getting bad because the cuff didnt touch..SO this McDavid Shoulder Wrap saved the day literally! It fits like a glove, I can even sleep in a recliner with it on. It hits right on the front and rear deltoids perfectly. The only downside is that the gel packs only stay cold for an hour, so buy 2 extra so you can immediately through 2 fresh ones in. A big tip: The McDavid shoulder wrap fits 2 gel packs, one for the front and one for the back of the shoulder. I ended up hand sewing a simple one line seam down the middle of the gel pack pouch. It allows the gel packs to each rest equally in the wrap and not shift or fall out. Its the simplest sewing you anyone can do by hand. 5Comfortable, secure, and works great!I love this! It comes with 2 big gel ice packs and the strap is comfortable. Some people said it was hard to put on, but I had no problem. I'm pretty well endowed in the boob department and it is still a nice fit. 5like a lot of people have saidWell, like a lot of people have said, it works better on the right than left. I suspect there are not as many left handed people, hence less left sided injuries, hence less demand for the company to make a left sided product.Me? I have bilateral injuries. Not only is it difficult for me to use on the left, I have to illicit help. With my right shoulder also injured I am unable to reach behind my back and remove the velcro. But that's a good thing, sort of, because the velcro sticks very well. Which is important. because it holds the wrap in place.Using it on the right is great. As great as it can be anyway. Blue gel ice pack Never get cold enough. And even though the fabric on the body side of the wrap is thin, it's not as good as Real Ice. Have you ever tried to wrap your own shoulder in an ice bad and saran wrap? Yeah. This is the best you're gonna get, I think. haha.It feels good, it stays put and, with some finagling, will work on both sides. Worth the money! 4Heated gel pad that works for dogs with back pain and spondylosisWe bought this for our older dog to relieve her back pain from spondylosis. She was born with an extra vertebrate. Amazingly, it fits her (see pics attached below). Our dog is about 36 lbs. With some minor alterations/extensions, I think it'll fit even if your dog is bigger. We actually had to remove one side of the velcro strap and extended the small velcro at the front to make it fit even better. After a few days, the gel pad exploded in the microwave. I guess the best way to warm it up is to use the boiling water method (boil water, turn off the stove and soak the gel pads for 8-10 min) 5Really Really Good Customer Service!I was having my second rotator cuff surgery, and decided I wanted something more portable than the ice machine, which after the first surgery made me feel that I was tethered to a plug. I bought the shoulder wrap and two extra ice packs as other reviewers advised. I put them in the freezer and forgot about them until the day of my surgery a few weeks later. Well the truth is it was actually a bit too heavy to use right after the surgery, I should have realized this, but a month later when I decided to give it a try I went to the freezer to discover two of the gel packs, the ones I have not put in the neoprene sleeve itself, has turned into icy crystals. I went back over the reviews and saw that some people have had problems with leaking gel packs. I decided to call McDavid directly and I was so glad I did. A woman named Sally in the customer service department answered the phone right away and offered to send me four replacement packs, free of charge, even though two were still OK. She suggested that Amazion may have had some old stock in there warehouse, which may very well be possible. I am now wearing the sleeve with two ice packs in the pockets and I can only say that it feels wonderful. This is a long healing process and ice really helps. This sleeve is so easy to put on with one hand and I can walk around the house without it falling off. The gel packs get very cold I can feel it penetrating and soothing my supraspinatus tendon just right. If you're concerned about the negative reviews don't worry, McDavid really stands behind this product. No hassles. I am a slim woman five foot five, 110 pounds and it fits me just perfectly, but the Velcro section is very large so it seems it would fit someone larger easily. 5Female Breast + L rotator cuff injury = find a comfortable wrap!To the active ladies who need a shoulder wrap that does the job hot and/or cold...this wrap is a tiny bit oversized for my 5'4" frame, but to my surprise it keeps more area cool so I'm happy in that dept. Comfortability with my boob size (b36) was a concern of mine b/c I didn't know how this wrap was going to feel with a thick strap across R breast and the L breast being half smashed. It took me a few mins to get comfortable in the wrap. My R breast was nicely secure inside the thick strap, but the L breast was of course smashed. At this point the product feels so good cold that I don't mind a smashed boob for one hour of relief. When purchasing a wrap for my L torn rotator cuff I looked around everywhere for a more comfortable female wrap product and found nothing so I did second best and looked at the pictures to figure out which wrap would be best for both my needs and boobs. If u notice all pictures of any shoulder product go right across, on top of, very close to the breast area therefore, I knew I was in for conflict, but I needed relief. I bought this wrap b/c of the picture and positive reviews. I've had it 4 days now, use it twice a day and it's worked out ok not fabulous. Well, the second gel pack burst this morning. Heating in the microwave, even submerged in water does not work for these. Both packs have burst following the directions. I'm going to continue to use the strap, but use a completely different heating pack which came with a different strap that wasn't so good.I got this for a rotater cuff injury I've been dealing with for a while. I had some heating straps from the pharmacy, but it never would stay on my shoulder very well unless I stayed sitting down on the couch. I got this strap because it looked it it would stay more secure on my shoulder. It definitely does that. I really like the way the strap fits - it's pretty easy to put on and take off myself and it stays very secure - I can move about normally while it's on.However, the gel packs that it comes with...ug. Terrible. You have to heat them up in water - 2 minutes each in the microwave. So 4 minutes for both and the first is cooling down while you heat the second. They don't get very hot, and I popped one of the two gel bags already after 5 days. The second almost popped today. Even if they are completely covered in water, the corners inflate then rise above the waterline and continue to expand until they burst. Terrrible. I am using the old heating insert that came with my other strap, which heats in 1 minute in the microwave and doesn't need to be covered in water. Man, I wish these two inserts (or even a single double wide insert, was made of the same material and would heat just as easily. Oh, well. I still love the strap, but won't be buying any replacement gel packs from these guys. 3I suggested he give it another try but said he found the fit uncomfortable and that the two gel packs once inside the protectiveReturned product after attempting to use first time. I was not home and my husband was unable to get the item properly secured to his shoulder since he has a shoulder injure that must be iced. Once I was home, I suggested he give it another try but said he found the fit uncomfortable and that the two gel packs once inside the protective covering were not as cold as the frozen bag of corn he was used to and felt the corn was cheaper and worked better. Item went back and a few days later the Elasto-gel shoulder sleeve arrived and he is now thrilled. Says it is easy to put on, super cold, and best of all - allows him the freedom to move around while icing his shoulder instead of being confined to his recliner for the 20 - 30 minutes twice a day. His shoulder is already feeling better after jus 3 days. This is after several months of pain from inflammation. Highly recommend the Elasto-gel wrap even though more expensive, otherwise - just stick to frozen corn. 1
