Customer Reviews

Thick, durable, very solidThe lens is definitely rigid. It is perfect for any application that requires a non-warping, frame-mounted fresnel lens. I doubt it could be cut to size, so definitely check the dimensions before buying. The material is hard, so I think the could stand up to wind erosion outdoors, although I have no idea how resistant the plastic will be to UV over time. Five stars, highly recommended for DIY rigid fresnel lens projects! :-)When I bought it, the seller had not yet listed any useful information in the product description, so I have measured it and will post my results in case anyone might find a use for them in the future:Plastic body dimensions: 276mm x 210mm x 2.5mmEffective area (etched with grooves) dimensions: 263mm x 198mmFocal length: 385mmGrooves per inch: 775It is very good for crafting and reading! It is very clear and sturdy. I glued cord to the sides and got magnifier twice cheaper than same on website, but with cord. I do cross-stitching, and this one works perfectly for me. I also use it for any fine work, where my eyeglasses not enough. If you need magnifier, this one is cheap, but reliable. But be careful with surface, it get scratches easily.5it's perfect.I keep this in the kitchen for the tiny printed labels; it's perfect.5Handy Reader enhancersI bought 3 cheap reader enhancers on Amazon as I have Macular Degeneration and was really pleased that I now have these.Just after having bought these, Later I was taken to a specialised shop in Seattle for vision, as I wanted to find out if there were other contraception s that maybe I should also get, but a similar range, with maybe 1 item I had missed, and some way more expensive items which I will comment on later.I bought 3 items, all at a great price between 8 and 12 $ each.:1) Mighty Bright Rigid Page Magnifier ( rigid full page) 8$2) Carson Multi-Power LED Lighted Pocket Magnifier (PM-33) 8$3) UltraOptix LED Lighted Folding Magnifier 3x 12$The Mightly Bright rigid page Magnifier is just great when you wish to read a magazine or a book, as you can see several columns at the same time, and if you are a fast reader, you can skip down paragraphs easily without getting lost. There is no light on the rigid full page magnifier, (uses a Fresnel system) so you need to get good lighting, which is not a problem at home. It is very light, but still does a great job.( I am delighted with IKEA s small let light for about 12 CAD each!, a powerful and concentrated light on a flexible tube about 18 in long)I was concerned about scratching the big flat plastic sheet, but actually just put in inside the pages of a magazine, and bingo, it is protected. No need to have a special cover. The next 2 are similar, with the Carson pocket magnifiers probably being my preference as it is much lighter, thinner, and fits neatly in a pocket ( my breast pocket),At last at a restaurant, I can easily flip it out and read the menu, even in dim lighting conditions. I am super pleased. The Carsons also has a more modern look, as it is not so obvious you have a magnifying glass as the Ultraoptix . The Ultra optix folding Magnifier his much bigger, thicker, and while the lense is way bigger, it actually does not make that much of a difference. Maybe if you only had the 2 (Carson & Ultra Optix) , then for reading the bigger Ultraoptix would be good, but read on.For details, the Carosns switch is smaller and more difficult to get put ON by accident, but it does have special batteries, which cant be re-charged, so may be more expensive in the long run. Will have to wait and see how long the batteries last. Not too sure if I will use the 2 additional small higher magnifying screens on Carsons often,( at one side ), but if you are not getting a small character, for which you wish a greater magnification it is right there, and you don t have to lift the magnifying, and hence the light does not go dimmer, (for MD a good light is essential).Next and future wishes.I saw Carson ezRead Visual Aide Magnifier (DR-200) at 73 $, but it is not wireless, so having wires linked to say an Ipad or tablet is not on, and it have the wrong connections for a tablet! But am pretty sure that soon we will se something come.I also say in the specialised shop fancy system that looked like a camera above a PC screen, which then was linked to the screen and you could magnify at the level you wished. ( you have the page flat on the desk, and see the text on screen, BUT the price was horrendous! 2000$.A straight small digital camera cost 100$ and a fixture to the screen would do the job at way less!!There were also small 3inx 7 in screens similar to a smart phone in apparence, which worked like a digital camera with a huge screen, and a few add-ons like convert a black print on white paper to yellow text on blue background, but these were also in the 500 + $ range, not that cost/benefit enough for me.Finally, in the shop, there was also a magnifying glass similar to UltraOptix, but where the distance to the page was fixed by a box which you place on the paper and slide alond.. This is not something you would want to take out of the house, but may decrease the arm fatigue of holding a small light glass at the right distance from what you are reading. It was also much more that the 10 $ range.5Not very practicalNot really usable. Has to be held above the page in order to magnify. Maybe when I cannot see the page otherwise I will change my mind about it, but for now it is sitting unused on a shelf.2GREAT OPTICSEasy to use when I have an 8X11 hard copy document that I want to read without moving a magnifying glass around. Very light weight and easy to hold above page for the desired magnification.5Works well. Easy to hold. This is working great for reading tiny text in books and even for reading magazines on my Kindle - which are difficult to see! Large enough to prop up on your lap, lightweight.5She uses it, no matter what she saysVery useful even if mom says she doesn't need it to reference her recipes when cooking for family on Thanksgiving and keeps asking me to read her the ingredients again. Ugh! Come on mom again? I know you don't "need" the magnifier but it might help...5Perfect! Light, easy, cheapI bought this for my mother and she is thrilled. It makes the text on pages by and bright. After reading other reviews, we chose this because it was rigid and magnified the whole page. I do agree with other reviewers that an excellent design enhancement or companion product would be some sort of adjustable stand that the magnifier could slip into. Like many who use this product, my Mom is elderly and has arthritis so balancing her reading material will become uncomfortable relatively quickly. We will devise something like a stand, but it would be convenient to simply pay a little more or purchase something from Amazon. If it had a stand of some sort, this would be 5 star rating.4Disappointed. Only 2-3X magnificationBought for my 88yo blind in one eye dad. He says it s not really very magnified. Only about 2-3X what he can see without it. Doesn t help much5
