Along With More Safety, A Bit Of Peace Of MindMy son wanted this for me. He put it up for me. Unless the house falls down, neither will I. This grab bar is rock solid. I think the peening is a very good idea. It does make it just a bit less slick, just enough to be a little more safe, well worth the small price difference. It did not take my son long to install this and he had no problems with it. Installation went very smoothly. I really feel better about getting in and out of the shower and moving around in it while I have a hold of this bar. 5Sturdy handle, but the brass coloring is a little too goldishFirst, you must locate two studs to install securely and for safety. If you cannot locate then hire a professional. After locating the studs, i applied masking tape on the wall so I could layout the holes. Unit is 18 inches but studs were 12 in apart, so I installed at an angle. You can install vertically if desired onto one stud. I have tile, so I patiently but firmly drilled holes big enough that the screw would fit through because I did not want to crack the tile when tightening.i drilled six holes, stopping after each one to check the next hole location before drilling the next. My rating is 4 stars because the polished brass color is close to a 14k gold color. It does not look bad, but the color is not the same as the polished brass fixtures throughout the bath. 4Nice grab rail. Unclear listing. Needs a "what's in the box" notice.The listing information, From the Manufacturer, says "Easy Installation with SecureMount Anchors" WITH A PICTURE of the drywall braces and locating jig. I took a gamble and ordered this expecting I might get the whole "securemount" deal. I was wrong. Not happy. Nice grab rail. Unclear listing. Needs a "what's in the box" notice. 3If you're having a problem getting up, this can be a literal lifesaver.This is not a product that makes one excited like a new toy. But if you're having a problem getting up, this can be a literal lifesaver.If you, or someone you know, is a little bit handy this is not difficult to install. I wound up installing 4 of these. Getting the holes through the bathroom tiles was a bit more difficult and required a special ceramic tile bit (cost about $15). I'm just an ordinary homeowner and I figured out how to do this on my own.All you need to do is to find the 2x4" wooden studs and drive in 3 screws for each side of the handle into the studs.The peened handle gives you far more hand traction and you're less likely to slip. Buy the peened handles. 5Sturdy handle for supportInitially I bought this for the bathroom, but my wife said she really needed stability support in another part of the house. I installed this on a wide doorway entry that steps down 2 steps to a family room.Using the instructions, it was easy to install. The bright white enamel finish nicely matched our high gloss trim and it looks professionally installed. it is very sturdy, with a wide grip and securely anchored in the wood with long screws. Now my wife can safely maneuver up and down the stairs with a secure support without fear of falling. 5Good and strongOur grandson installed and this is the second Moen R8712P 12-Inch Bathroom Grab Bar, Peened, we had put up. Very pleased with the product and so glad we got the Peened grab bar because the grip feels more secure. 5Misleading descriptionThe description shows the SecureMount design and then a picture of the SecureMount anchor and a video showing installation with the SecureMount design and the SecureMount anchor. As much as it sounds like these are all the same thing, SecureMount design is only referring to the plate on the bar that has holes in it to accept screws. The SecureMount anchors are NOT included. You get screws. If you thought they were included and want to report missing parts to Amazon, they refer you to Moen. They are very sorry but the SecureMount anchors are separate. I found them priced in the $10-30 range for each anchor. The bars themselves seem good and the pricing made them a good choice, but wait for the bars to arrive, no mounting hardware, ask where it is, wait some more. Have to order them paying more than the bars themselves cost and have to wait some more. A few weeks is a lot of time if you need the bar to get off the toilet. It would be nice if instead of the cute name for the mounting flange, they just made it clear about what is in the box. 1Should have gotten these years ago!Very sturdy. Love that it has a textured finish ("peened"), so my hands don't slip. It's not so big around that I can't get a good grip, either.I had the 18" grab bars placed at the entrance from my garage to the breezeway, breezeway to the kitchen, and basement to the kitchen; there are stairs at each doorway. They have made it so much easier to get around my house safely. 5Perfect product!Perfect product for my 89 year old parents shower. Much better price than from big box stores. If you or your builder did not have the foresight to add some backers in the construction of the shower walls, do your self a favor and go with a pair of Moen grab bar anchors (you need two boxes). They are a bit pricey, but do the job. Chances of you hitting a stud dead center are not that great unless you drill a lot of test holes to insure that your stud finder actually found a stud. My experience is that a stud finder does not do a very good job of finding a stub through a layer of tile and cement board. The bars come in two diameters 1.25 (residential) 1.5 inch (commercial). Both are ADA compliant. 1.25 inch is more than adequate for residential needs and probably better for smaller handed people. 5Secure Mount Anchors???Moen produces a great product. I ve viewed several different options, sizes and makes but when I saw the Secure Mount Anchors, my mind was made up, it would be Meon for me. Imagine my surprise when I found out that grab bar doesn t come with the Secure Mount Anchors and they have to be purchased separately. As in previous reviewer suggest, this should be made clear in the Revenge. Amazon should not feature this as a video if it does not come with this product. my mind was made up.
