Not a bad smell at all.I received my supplements today. It came fast. I order Kelp, selenium, and zinc picolinate. I have hypothyroid and lately I've been feeling palpitation, and that is a huge concern. I decided to give these supplements a try. It is too soon to say whether it works or not but the reason I am writing this review is to tell you that people are very different and reviews can be biase. I read a lot reviews where it says the smell of these supplements are terrible. I am VERY sensitive to smell but still I wanted take my changes and good thing I did. The smell is herbal and not bad at all. To me, it's normal and expected since these are made out of herbs. Hopefully it will help me with my symptoms. I will come back here in a few months after my next blood test. I wish you all good health and happiness! 5They Work PerfectlySince I have been taking this supplement I've been losing 1-2 lbs a week. More if I watch my diet closer and include more exercise as well. Doesn't taste too bad, has a strong smell but it's bearable. 5Health, SupplementsThis has been helpful in getting to sleep. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU DON'T TAKE TOO MUCH!! 5Lesson learned: buy the good stuffStrange story: my grandparents both lived into their late 90s. When I visited them as a child, I remember that their silverware had a odd, stinky smell, they attributed it to their well water. Years later, I read that selenium was an essential mineral that in most diets was either deficient or almost absent, and that it was critical to health and the function of the immune system. I started taking it, buying it at Walmart and I remember opening the bottle and immediately recalling the smell of my grandparents' silverware that was washed in their selenium rich well water. But last time, the bottle I bought didn't have the distinctive smell, it smelled like sawdust. Hearing about the scandal in which Walmart supplements were found to be phony, I purchased Now brands from Amazon, and when I opened the bottle, there it was: that peculiar, distinctive selenium smell.I quit buying any supplements from Walmart and now buy all my supplements from Amazon. 5Dont take everydayFirst, I gave it 5 stars because NOW brand is by far a top notch brand. Selenium builds up in our systems fairly fast. Especially if you are already eating a well rounded diet. I was taking this daily for a few weeks, and started to feel terrible. It turns out it was building up in my system. Our body gets rid of excess selenium fairly fast, and I was back to 'normal' after a month. I take this once a week now. 5NOW supplements are the way to goI take this daily as part of a blood pressure control blend of several supplements. I am able to control high blood pressure without medication. 5A great value with so many benefits...I have taken Selenium for years as selenium is most helpful in the production of thyroid hormones and converting T4 to the active T3 which always helps when my thyroid slows. Research also shows that it alleviates the toxic effects of excessive iodine on thyroid which is more common then people realize due to the addiition of it to table salt, increasing urinary iodine excretion. As an anti-oxidant, it protects against free radical damage. Selenium can help raise your level of glutathione which I found does help in the detox of heavy metals and toxins. I had found that mercury binds to selenium so I found it was especially important supplement to take more when I was dealing with excess mercury. A couple of Brazil Nuts or some blackstrap molasses I used as natural sources as well, but I find that this Now selenium is such as excellent value and easier to take. Most selenium pills have a slight odor. Were I rich, I would buy everything without fillers such as the 3x higher priced Pure Encapsulations selenium and thats the only reason for the 4 and not 5 stars. I wonder if I went completely filler free, I would in turn find my natural pheromones to skyrocket and be chased by millions of women like an axe commercial..Maybe I'll have to try that someday and see. In the meanwhile, I have had good success with this now product, and get a hair tissue mineral analysis to check the levels, as both deficiency and large excess can cause problems since our bodies are a balance beam. 4Surprised my doctorMy doctor said I was the second most deficient in selenium of any patient she's had! I started with 800mg a day and now I'm down to 400 a day.When I ran out of this brand she had me take one that was more bioavalable (food-based), but it turns out my body seems to actually like this one better, which really surprises her.My doctor also has me give my 2 year old one Brazil nut every day for selenium.Selenium is so important! Almost everyone should be taking it or eating a Brazil nut every day! 5Cancer preventionI take selenium for cancer prevention and thyroid issues. Now brand is a good brand. 5Highly Recommended for Heart HealthI'm sold on NOW supplement products. After a heart attack and twin stints in 2009 my doctor suggested I use 200 mcg of Selenium once a day. I've been using this product and am almost 96 now so I can't complain. 5
