Great purity, good priceI started taking fish oil recently because of knee pain, likely due to meniscus surgery I had a few years ago. As a young adult who still plays sports, I can't afford to slow down. I did my research on various fish oil supplements, and eventually chose this. Here's why1. Good amount of DHA/EPA (the ingredients you truly want from fish oil) compared to the overall fish oil content (750mg/1000mg). 60% is probably the lowest I would go, but 75% is great.2. Price. Great price for these supplements, and one of the highest EPA/DHA mg/$ I've been able to find. If you find a higher DHA/EPA mg/$ ratio, I'd love to hear about it.3. Low percentage of fishy burps. I do still get them occasionally, especially when I take them before working out, but most of the time I do not have any fishy burps.I highly recommend getting this with its companion product, Now Foods Ultra Omega 3, Fish Oil Soft-gels, 180-Count, which has 500mg EPA/250mg DHA. I take 1 of each (2 total) twice a day, in the morning and evening. That gets me to the recommended 1500 mg of EPA/DHA per day (250 mg EPA + 500 mg EPA + 250 mg DHA + 500 mg DHA). Solid product overall. 5Warning Contains Soy IngredientsI am extremely sensitive to soy, it gives me awful indigestion, bloating, nausea, belly pain and I avoid it. I couldn't figure out why I was feeling so gross and my poor little breastfeeding 2 month old has been having the stinkiest and apparently painful gas. I had narrowed it down to these capsules since he would spit up within an hour of my taking them, but I couldn't figure out why. I had read the ingredients when they arrived but I had missed the part at the lower part of the bottle that says that it contains Natural d-alpha Tocopherol from non-GMO SOY. Thankfully my husband isn't sensitive and can finish this up so it won't be wasted. I wish the fact that it contains soy had been more clear in the product description, it would have saved some bad belly aches here. 2Great DHA to EPA ratioI had been on the hunt for a DHA supplement that contained more DHA than EPA, since learning that having a higher DHA to EPA ratio is more beneficial. I will say, this is one of the only fish oils I have found that meets my criteria:1. 2:1 ratio DHA to EPA2. Molecularly distilled (free of mercury and other contaminants)3. Not crazy-expensive4. Only one capsule required per dayI am currently 9 months pregnant but will continue to take these while nursing and after! 5Using with Nemecheck ProtocolI ve been using these for several months, because I am doing the Nemecheck protocol for my daughter. Because it is so high in DHA, I know it is passing the blood brain barrier. It works, because the results prove it. 5Better than Fish oilI started looking for something better than fish oil. I happened on a product that incorporated squid oil and felt really good on it but after some shopping I found I could get the components for less. Oddly enough that was not as easy as usual. When my wife was going to visit her elderly parents I was shopping for something less expensive yet and found this. After some research I realized this has everything you need for the essential oils you expect to get from fish oil, but it turns out you really don't. This addresses absorption and has EPA as well as DHA. It's a win all around. Best of all my wife said her parents can really tell the difference in energy and focus with this, much more than with fish oil.By this if your're getting old, ache, can't concentrate or just want to be healthy. 5Great for Pregnant and Nursing Women!These DHA vitamins are great for pregnant or nursing women! I took them while pregnant and just ordered another bottle now that I am nursing. These have no taste, are easy to swallow, and I've never noticed a fishy aftertaste. As stated on the bottle, "The natural fish oil concentrate used in this softgel is manufactured under strict quality control standards. It is tested to be free of potentially harmful levels of contaminants (i.e. Mercury, heavy metals, PCB's, dioxins, and other contaminants)."I had been taking Nordic Naturals Prenatal DHA (Nordic Naturals Prenatal DHA - Unflavored - 180 Softgels) early in my pregnancy but switched to these when I ran out. I will continue to purchase the NOW brand DHA from now on for a few reasons:- These are enteric-coated and odor-controlled so they are easier to swallow and do not have any odor to them (which was super helpful during early pregnancy when I was very sensitive to strong flavors and scents).- These pills do not get "sticky" in the bottle like the Nordic Naturals do- You only have to take one pill to get 500mg of DHA. You need 2 pills of the Nordic Naturals to get just 450mg of DHA.- The price point for the NOW brand is significantly lower than Nordic Naturals, especially if you factor in the serving size (as noted above, you'll need to take 2 of the Nordic Natural pills to get to about the same amount of DHA as just one NOW brand pill)Very happy with these and will stick to this brand for the duration of my time nursing (and for any future pregnancies!) 5Quality control issues are a problemBeen taking this for several years but some quality problems. I have had to return because the pills are stuck together. Sometimes the smell is very strong in the bottle indicating breakage and possible spoilage. I have had 3 bad shipments now. Definitely some quality control issues. If not for that I think this is an outstanding product when properly prepared and packaged. So you should check it prior to taking, see if the capsules are loose in the bottle (they should be) and smell (odor should not be strong). 3Miracle Cures and Heavy Metal ContaminantsFish oil is literally food for the brain as well as the arteries of your body....plus it radically decreases inflammation, which doctors are now finding out is the root cause of most (if not all) known diseases out there. This is huge, folks. BUT of course there is a 'but', as with all things in this world. BUT if you get the cheapest fish oil you can find that hasn't undergone good testing for contamination, you are literally ingesting toxins when you take your fish oil. Our world, oceans, lakes, are all really polluted. It's pretty bad guys, and it's not getting any better. And guess where toxins are stored when a fish ingests them?....in their fat. So you get your fish oils from good sources that have tested for things like mercury, PCBs and such.I did a test on this one from NOW foods. It was a pretty cheap "toothpick" test that is recommended by Dr Barry Sears, who pretty much revolutionized the way we look at fish oil. Look him up once and read about the amazing cures. Anyway, the toothpick test came out good, so I feel fairly confident that NOW's DHA-500 is, like it says on the bottle, tested for contaminants. It's a good oil from a good source. I give it to my autistic kid (and all the rest of us take it too), and I recommend it for anybody over the more expensive varieties out there. It has produced pretty obvious results for my kids. 5The oil in this product is from Tuna fish in India......The oil in this product is from Tuna fish in India...... 1Helps with my fibroI have fibromyalgia. I got these a couple years ago to see if they would help with my mental fogs. To my surprise, not only do they help, they also help reduce my pain. If you know someone with fibro who recommends omega-3 oil, know that this is the same thing.I highly recommend this product. It is the best value I can find. 5
