TERRIBLE CHOCOLATE PU-ERH TEA--Do Not Buy!This chocolate pu-erh tea is made with cocoa powder which you can taste along with cinnamon and other spices. I could not taste the pu-erh tea as it was hard to find any tea leaves. This is the worst chocolate pu-erh tea, and I love both whole leaf pu-erh tea and chocolate, so I ended up throwing out both bags and finding another source that actually has whole leaf tea with chocolate nibs in it, which is absolutely delicious. I only bought this tea as I have several other Numi organic whole leaf tea I love, but this is ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE PU-ERH TEA let alone with it made with horrible cocoa powder which you could taste. Do Not Buy This Tea as it is simply terrible. I seldom write reviews but I had to on this product since it was so terrible.1Pretty Good; not ExceptionalThis review is for Numi's Organic Chinese Breakfast tea. Pros:- A solid choice for organic tea at this price point- Incredibly forgiving of over-steeping, which is important to me. I can leave it in there for 7 minutes without detecting any bitternessCons:- In the end, the flavor just isn't there. I've gone through multiple pounds of the stuff, and it's been consistently underwhelming.2 stars for flavor; 4 for presentation (Benefit of the doubt, since I don't even know what "presentation" means. Probably color, nose, and mouthfeel. My eyes, nose, and palate aren't that refined, though, so not important factors to me.) 5 stars for value. Average=3.66, rounded up to 4. Based on these scores, I'm sufficiently pleased with this tea to continue to re-ordering. Paid 21.75/lb. Will re-visit if price goes up much.4Nice bold teaI've been looking around for a good black tea and started reading about all the pesticides in most name brand teas and after finding several articles that cited this one as being pesticide free I decided to give it a try. I am very happy with the strength of this tea! Much better than the weak shavings you find in a lot of name brand tea bags. For those interested I steep it using the IPOW Upgraded FDA Approved 18/8 Stainless Steel Tea and Coffee Infuser Fine Mesh Filters Tea Strainer Steeper Double Handles for Hanging on Teapots also found on Amazon. Ignore the negative reviews on that infuser. It works perfectly and is reasonably sturdy if you respect it.5Great tea. Great company. Great value.I've never had a bad batch of Numi. I started out just with individual bags and moved on to the value and improved flavor of the loose leaf tea.I drink a bag of this and a bag of Earl Grey every 6-8 weeks.Bag size is perfect for leaving my table spoon in the bag, the old paper bags they came in were a little smaller and took a few days of tea(s) before I could leave the spoon in the bag...In theory these bags would keep the tea a little longer, but i've never had a bag go bad, so it's theoretical. But the resealable zip top keeps it from oxygenation.In any case, the only other tea I drink are the twinings Irish breakfast teas...but that's only when camping and/or on vacation.Numi is my go to brand... every once in a while I'll drink their chai, but mostly English breakfast and Earl Grey. Great teas!5Bright and floral but definitely lacking the body a good breakfast tea needsI've become concerned with Mighty Leaf's organic Breakfast whole leaf tea, the leaves are coming in smaller and smaller pieces.So I ordered this to try. It's a bright, flavorful tea that comes in large unbroken leaves but it is missing body. I contacted them about this earlier this year, and asked if there's another of their teas they could recommend for more body. The response was that they agree on the tea lacking body and are working on this, expect changes coming to this tea in later 2018. No offer of another tea to try or something to blend with this to get more body. I ended up buying some of their Chinese Breakfast and am blending it. There's still not the full body that I am looking for but it's better. The downside is that the leaves are breaking while I am mixing the two teas. Sadly for Numi, at this point I'll just go back to Mighty Leaf.3InterestingThis wasn't my favorite tea ever, but I still enjoyed it. It's got a strong flavor, like what I imagine tree bark to taste like, and it smells like a combination of tree bark and compost (but in a good way. Does that make any sense?). I can get four brews in if I do a quick rinse (15 seconds), first brew 30 seconds, second brew 1 minute, third brew 2 minutes, and fourth brew 4 minutes. If I followed the directions for steeping on the package, I was only able to get three brews in before it lost its flavor. If I skimped on the rinsing step, the tea tasted like burnt rubber, so make sure you rinse it.3It starts off like a little square of dark chocolateThis stuff is interesting. It starts off like a little square of dark chocolate. You pour some boiling water over it and swish it around and it turns into leaves of tea. Pour that washing water out and fill with 1.25 cups of water. Let steep for a few minutes and you have your cup of tea. Each little square makes like one cup of tea x four, since you can reuse the leaves 3 more times. I don't like this point because I do not have an efficient place to store the leaves! So anyway, there are 12 squares, therefore, 48 CUPS of tea. They make it seem like 10 ounces is a POT of tea! What you make it into is, to me, more like a cup!But, the flavor is so smooth! I don't even have to use cream or sugar in this tea. No bitterness. Just smooth and delicious.5Soft and floral rather than bright and citrusHere are two things to help you make a choice. (1) This Earl Grey is on the floral end of the spectrum rather than the bright citrus end. (2) The tea is solid medium grade Assam, rather than a blend of Ceylon and Assam, so the tea itself is more on the soft and soothing end of the spectrum than the bold and complex end. For my taste it makes for a better afternoon tea than a morning tea than a morning tea because it is softer and more more floral and soothing. The Rishi Earl Grey is on the other end of the spectrum in terms of Amazon offerings. A decent tea for a great price.3A Super TeaThis tea is what it looks like and does what it is known to do. I have traded my fixes of coffee for this amazing tea. Coffee had caused all sorts of issues I was not immediately aware of. I take one piece of the brick and place into my tea strainer and get 3 sometimes 4 cups. You can get more if you don't mind lighter cups. I have 2 sometimes 3 cups a day and this tea keeps me wide awake and alert throughout the day. As long as I don't have a cup past 5PM then it lasts right up til 11PM. I have made the mistake to drink a cup past this hour and have found that can't sleep til around 2am. With this tea, I do not have the heavy smelly coffee breath, don't get the jitters, and since I am hypoglycemic I don't crash at any point in the day like I did with coffee or red bulls. This has helped me stay super focused during intense studying or analyzing business work. Remember, this is not compressed tea powder. This is actual compressed tea LEAVES! Just like the picture.I can also attest to the fact that this is the reason why my cholesterol is very low to 119 but in the last two years never went above 172.5DisappointingI eagerly anticipated this one after reading its product description, but it's completely disappointing.Sorry, but this tea does not live up to its boast: " . . . malty Assam, robust Ceylon, brisk Chinese Keemun and hints of floral Darjeeling creates a hearty, balanced morning cup. "It looks pretty, but none of these flavors present in the cup: no real flavor at all; it's certainly not brisk.I don't think this is worth the almost $30.00 asking price:I returned it.1
