Real gritsAnyone north of the Mason Dixon Line who wonders what the big deal with grits is just needs to buy a bag of these and follow the instructions. Recommended by a life long southern redneck. Great grits for slow cooked weekend breakfasts.5Tasty and tender after fully cookingI really like the flavor of this cornmeal. It needs to be cooked a very long time to get the full flavor and soften. I put it off the boil as soon as it thickened and let it simmer, covered, on the lowest heat, adding water from time to time. It needs stirring every 20 minutes to get the bottom of the pot mixed and to prevent a hard cake from forming there. If you taste it before it cooks completely it will taste bitter. But that s true of any cornmeal. My polenta was so good I wanted to eat the whole pot!5Wonderful!I looked for a long time to find grits that had any flavor. Instant grits are awful, sorry. I bought the classic white grits from this company to start with, and loved them. These yellow grits do not disappoint. They are wonderful, and you can cook them as you would polenta, or follow the directions for grits on the package and enjoy! I often substitute chicken broth for water, but that's the only change I make. I purposefully make too much so that I can brown some of the leftover grits in a pan the next day for breakfast. So good!5No different than quaker old fashioned grits!I wasn t familiar with stone ground grits until a friend in Florida told me about it. I immediately went online to find some and was suckered by all the high reviews for this brand. I got it today and honestly I really couldn t tell a difference (except that it was yellow) from regular Quaker old fashion grits. My friend sent me a photo of how Stone ground grits should look like. The picture of the bag of grits is how my friends grits look. The other picture is of Aldi s brand of quick grits (the white grits) and the other spoon is palmetto yellow grits. One is less than $2 and the other one was $12. Did I get suckered or what? Don t understand the high reviews. After cooking them, they still looked and tasted like regular old fashion grits. I would not recommend. I am trying a couple of other brands to see if I have better luck in my quest to get authentic stone ground grits.1Very Good, but pricyI've been a fan of yellow grits for close to 40 years. My first time eating yellow grits was while vacationing on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. In the Northeast and Upper Mid-West you can not find yellow grits in any stores. As a result I have had to mail order them. My usual source sends me an inconsistent product. This is my first time purchasing Palmetto Farms Stone Ground Yellow Grits and I found to be a great product. I feel its a little over priced, but I would definitely buy it again!4Great stuffThis is a huge step up from the Quaker Old Fashioned grits (QOFG) I was using for years which until now the best I'd found. Got a pointer to this product by a friend who used to live in SC and am surprised at the improvement. Creamier, tastier and with super fast delivery. Like the grits I was used to on my long-ago frequent trips to New Orleans. Cooks exactly the same as the QOFG which makes it all sooo easy. Great stuff!!5Tasty grits. My husband likes them prepared with milk & swiss cheese as a side dish to steak. I had been buying a national brand "quick grits" (cooks in 5 min.) in a cardboard container from the grocery store until recently, when my husband took a trip to Atlanta, where his host raved about this product being the best grits ever. They are tasty and have a nice texture, and the recipe on the package was good, too. But my family can't tell the difference between this and the inexpensive grocery store kind ( it just might be us). Five stars because the product was as described and we did enjoy.5The real deal, our 'house' choiceSlow-cook grits aren't an option here (I lived 11 years in the deep south and my wife went to University in Alabama), so when I needed a choice for quality grits, I went on Amazon, fingers crossed, and hoped I could find what I was looking for.I consider myself a 'foodie', have been eating (slow-cook) grits for over 25 years, and thus feel I'm qualified to render an opinion. We're very happy with the white and the yellow (though my wife greatly prefers the white) grits from Palmetto Farms, and look forward to purchasing them for as long as Amazon offers them. They do take 25 minutes to cook, so definitely slower than quick grits. But very much worth the wait. I bought them because I want nonGMO corn. I don't cook my grits for as long as the directions call for- they are made to my liking in just over 10-12 minutes. I like them a little chewy. I would recommend this product.Addendum- ran out of these grits and got some Bob's Mill to try- they are smaller granules when cooked and made more of a mush- not toothsome how I like. Will not buy that again- going back to the Palmetto!5
