What's your Major Malfunction Spice Islands ?Well needless to say, this seasoning is the best stuff I have ever used in my 51 years of life. I have heard "That's the best steak" or "That's the tastiest chicken, I have ever had" mor than 100 times from family and friends since I found this spice some 15 or so years ago. Back then however, I only had to purchase one bottle at a time at ANY of the major food shopping markets in my neighborhood. It was always right there in the "Spice Islands Rack" with all the other fine Spice Islands products. Then one day it was like "Old Hickory Smoked Salt" had been discontinued and was impossible to find any longer, meanwhile all the same huge assortment of spices were still available at the same shopping centers.Since that day, I have had to order this product online, purchase 3 bottles at a time, and pay a ridculous ammount of shipping fees to get this product to my famlies table. Why was this product discontinued in markets in the first place ???? Why must I have to purchase online only Spice Islands ?? Seems to me, a product this good, should be within arms distance , in every store, to every customer, in the great ol' United States of America !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let the foreigners pay shipping costs LOL !!5Adds great flavor to any dishThis product is great for any use. I have friends over for omelettes every weekend. They love my omelettes. One reason is I use this salt in them. Have given a bottle to these friends and they rant and rave about it. I put it in my home made salsa, in salads and vegetables, chilis and other meat dishes. Anywhere you use salt and want some great smoked hickory flavor, use this product.5Still Good, But Not the SameI've been using Spice Islands Old Hickory Smoked Salt for over 40 years--when I've been able to find it. My parents used it before that.The flavor is very similar now to what it was in the 1970's.However, I believe at some point the manufacturing method or formula must have changed, and not for the better.These days there seems to be a much higher percentage of brown powder in the jar which is not bonded to the grains of salt. I think this is probably cocoa, which isl listed as an ingredient.Anyway, I find these days that when sprinkling the product in anything other than still air, much of this powder blows away on the breeze. Since I often use this while grilling, that can be a problem.4It will do for now until we can find the perfect smoked saltSince our local grocery store no longer carried bulk smoked salt, we have this a shot. Too dusty and way too salty. Sure you use a little but the dust flavor discolors your dish. Wanted more of that Smokey flavor but got salty. It will do for now until we can find the perfect smoked salt. I love Spice Island brands but this was a big let down.2a lttle goes a long waycan' find this in any store, anywhere, not even where spice islands is normally sold. this took a long time to be shipped, but worth the wait. 3 pack is enough to give to other enthusiasts. my grandma used this when i was a very little kid; she mixed it into hamburger patties; yum. we use it on and in just about anything, but be aware that it is strong and very salty.5Good alternativeI have used this product many times over the years. Couldn't find in the stores and so glad I could find it here. I like to use it in beans to add a little smoky taste when I don't want to use smoked meat or turkey. I also use it to season my baked barbeque.5Love this Hickory smoked salt!Have been using this spice since the 70's for "nuts and bolts", a recipe for party mix. I had been unable to find it for quite a few years. Have tried 3 different brands of hickory smoked salt, and none of them are as good. Was so happy to find it on Amazon!. It is more expensive than it was in the grocery store, but gotta have it.5If you can't find it locally, buy it on Amazon!Intense smokey flavor in a little bit of salt, it's great on burgers, steaks, salmon, and just about anything you don't have the time to throw in the smoker. I especially like to add a little extra to leftover broiled salmon that I then mix with softened cream cheese and some olive oil. I put it in the blender, and voila, instant smokey salmon spread or dip. Yum!5Simply the best to my tongueI make my own barbecue from a friend's grandmother's Alabama recipe. This is absolutely the BEST salt for this. I guess it's good for other things, but I just happen to only use it for my barbecue... as a rub and in the scratch-made tomato-base sauce.There are many, many hickory- and smoke-flavored salts out there. This absolutely the best tasting. And it has a decent shelf life.5Spice Island Old Hickory Smoked SaltI love this product on my over easy fried eggs in the morning. I think it adds a wonderful flavor to the eggs. It is very nice on a number of other foods, but have fun doing your own experimentation. I have used this product for years, but it was getting to be difficult to find it in any of the Orange County, CA markets, and finally impossible. I even called the company to inquire what markets stocked the product and was told Albertsons did, however the store manager said he would have to special order it for me and call when it was in. He never called.Buying online was way less hassle. After ordering 6 bottles online, I did a Google search on Hickory Smoked Salt. It turns out that there are many other brands of this product. The next time I run low, I think I will try one of the other brands just for comparisons sake.5
