Takes some getting used to, but is the most effective treatment for PF I have tried!This splint takes some getting used to, but it has been extremely helpful in reducing my PF pain.ADJUSTING THE FIT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!! See below. I can t say it ended up being super comfortable, but it has become tolerable to a point that I can wear it long enough to reduce my heel pain. I wear a women s 8.5 shoe and I purchased a size medium.I fractured my calcaneus a few months ago for the second time (first time was 4 years ago) and after being in a boot for 6 weeks this past May/June, I developed plantar fasciitis in the months following. It had gotten to the point where my first step of the morning, or after any amount of time sitting, I had excruciating pain in my heel. It brought me to tears a few times. I spoke to my ortho again and I was just advised to get expensive custom orthotics and stretch my foot before getting out of bed in the morning (already doing that!).Over a month s time I wasted a lot of money on different things and none of these helped at all:-straussburg sock-Neoprene boot with strap from toe to another strap that fastened around the top of my calf to keep foot flexed (extremely uncomfortable, caused my big toe to go numb after 10-15min of use, did not keep my foot flexed enough)-Night splint that goes on the top of the ankle and foot to keep foot flexed (difficult to put on, did not keep foot flexed enough, painful for the top of my foot)-PF compression socks (did nothing but make my toes puff up!)-compression band fitting around the arch of my foot (again, just made my foot swell on either side of the band)-massage ball to roll on the bottom of my foot (not sure I had enoug time to use this long enough for it to help - became painful after a few minutes)*************I finally settled on this splint after reading the reviews. When I first got it, I mistakenly assumed (as others did) this splint had to be tight enough to keep my heel settled into the split. I put it on and adjusted the straps. Within minutes my toes were going numb and I had pain on the top of my foot.I figured it was going in the pile of other failed products. Then I came back and read the review by Victor again, because he mentioned how to adjust the splint to be comfortable but still effective. He said: I keep the top strap (Calf) tight which keeps the splint in place. The middle strap (Ankle) I tightened so it is AGAINST my skin but not tight. The bottom strap (Top of foot) I keep loose, to help visualize about how loose, I can slide my pinky finger easily across the top of my foot between my foot and the strap. I found that this was the strap which was cutting off circulation to my toes and causing me a lot of pain. If you follow these instructions it is a huge difference. I first started wearing the splint this way for a couple of hours before I would go to sleep, while I was laying down watching tv. I did this for about 2 nights. Then I began to wear it through the night. The first night I lasted about 5 hours with it before becoming frustrated. Second night about 6 hours. Then I made it the whole night on the 3rd try. Now I have been able to wear it through the whole night for 3 nights.So...I have been using this about a week now and my PF pain has improved dramatically. I also got a cylindrical massage roller for the arch of my foot (less sharp texture than the ball) and after sleeping in this splint all night, I roll my foot on the massage roller for a minute, then I am able to get up and take steps without the stabbing heel pain I was having.This splint definitely has a learning curve but I have found it to be the most effective treatment so far. I wish I had tried this first before wasting money on so many other items first.**Of note - If you have very wide calves over ~20 I would reconsider this or you will have to rig something up with an extra strap as the strap only adjusts to length for about that size. 5----HAVING PAIN WHILE WEARING THIS?---- Read this review... This product works for me when adjusted properly....I bought this splint due to the large number of positive reviews, but I did take note of the many negative reviews that talked about the splint being painful after a while and people taking them off in the middle of the night. When I received it I immediately put it on to see how it fit. I wear a size 10 1/2 mens shoe and the large fits my foot comfortably. I don't know if I would fit into a medium, because with the large I have quite a bit of excess velcro on the straps. My toes come within about 1/4 inch of the end of the boot so I think it is the right size.-------------A TIP FOR PEOPLE WHO WAKE UP WITH PAIN IN THEIR FOOT OR HAVE THEIR FOOT FALLING ASLEEP-------------The first week of wearing the brace I was consistently waking up in the middle of the night with pretty severe pain in my foot caused by circulation being restricted and the strap closest to my toes putting pressure on the top of my foot creating pain in the ball of my foot as it pressed hard against the bottom of the brace.I now have figured out what works well for me, I hope it will help you adjust your splint. There is no documentation on how to use the splint that comes with the device. I assumed that all three straps should be tight which would make my foot conform to the angle of the splint. THIS WAS CAUSING A LOT OF PAIN AFTER A FEW HOURS OF USE!I now have learned that I get relief in the morning from my PF when the splint keeps me from pointing my toes in the night as this is supposed to do. HOWEVER the straps do not need to be tight for this to happen. I keep the top strap (Calf) tight which keeps the splint in place. The middle strap (Ankle) I tightened so it is AGAINST my skin but not tight. The bottom strap (Top of foot) I keep loose, to help visualize about how loose, I can slide my pinky finger easily across the top of my foot between my foot and the strap. I found that this was the strap which was cutting off circulation to my toes and causing me a lot of pain.SO when the splint is properly adjusted for me I can lift the ball of my foot and toes off of the bottom of the splint (like I am tapping my foot to a beat). The splint does NOT allow me to move my foot down (pointing my toes) THIS is what is important to keeping the plantar fascia stretched out which relives my PF pain.I have worn this splint for a few months now, and along with heel cups in all of my shoes, my pain is 95% gone. I only really notice it when I spend many days at home and I walk around barefoot on my hardwood floors. I took one star off the review for the complete lack of documentation accompanying this product. I believe that the reviewers that complained of pain wearing this at night had the splint on too tight. 4Definitely Helps Plantar FasciitisSleeping with this on has definitely improved my heel pain first thing in the morning. So far it's working better than the physical therapy.Took me a few nights to get used to it. Only wore 1 hr first 2 nights before going to sleep. 3rd night slept with it on for 6 hrs before I had to remove it. After that able to keep it on all night.Comes with instructions. Once on I lessened the tension at first in the side Velcro that holds your foot flexed so it wasn't overly flexed. After 4 days was able to retighten those. Has 3 Cross straps that hold your foot and ankle in place. Cross straps are fully adjustable. I recommend keeping them loose enough to place 2 fingers beneath so you don't make it too tight. Can be unbuckled at night if you need to go the bathroom, but as my foot began to feel a little better, I found I can hobble quietly to the bathroom in the boot without waking up my spouse. 4Great splint, but I got the wrong sizeI love this splint. I purchased 2. It is comfortable and I don't have trouble sleeping with it. If you have to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, you can walk on both splints, just carefully. Or, you can unbuckle them. I thought I would have to undo the velcro strips, which would wake up my husband, but I don't have to. I can just undo the 3 buckles (quietly). My only regret is that I got the wrong size. I am a woman and I wear size 9.5 women's tennis shoes and size 7 men's tennis shoes. I could not find a sizing chart on the Amazon website, so I got a large because of the recommendations of other people, but it was too large. The straps almost didn't go tight enough to prevent the boot from sliding, but then I realized that the padding (around the velcro strap) can be shifted down, so I was able to get the straps to fit at the right tension that I wanted. But the boot sticks out 1-2 inches past the top of my toes, so I think a medium would have been better for me. However, it does the job. See attached pictures. Picture 1 shows a ruler with my foot in a large splint. Picture 2 shows how the buckle was at the end of the strap (see Letter A) and I could not tighten it any further, even though there was a lot of strap left at the other end (see Letter B). Picture 3 shows that you can lift the velcro (Letter C), slide down the padding (Letter D), and then have more strap near the buckle to enable more tightening. This night splint has a lower cost than many out there, but it is of a high quality, so it is a really good deal. 5It actually WORKS!!!After a week of using this at night for my Plantar Fasciitis, I finally have relief occurring. I have pain walking for about seven months and seen two different doctors a couple times each. I got a cortisone shot (helped for about a week) and have been prescribed NSAID's. I have been prescribed 'resting it for a couple of weeks' and 'stand up on my toes on the edge of a stair'. This is the first thing that seems to have made a real and sustained difference. My foot is almost back to normal after three weeks of using this every night for a week then every other night. I had low expectations when I got it and now I sound like some sort of ad however if you read my other reviews on Amazon you will see that I am often pretty harsh. I do not think its coincidence that I may have 'naturally got better anyway' because I could immediately feel the difference when I took it off in the morning and got out of bed after using it for the 1st time. I had got used to the first few steps in the morning being painful on the bad foot and after the first night I wore it, there was far less pain then usual. My foot continues to improve more slowly now and I was finally playing ball with my sons again after seven months avoiding use of my foot due to pain during and after use.I tightened the two Velcro straps a bit so that it held my foot slightly more angled then 90 degrees. The first night I did that, it was uncomfortable at night but seemed better the next day. The second night at the same setting was less uncomfortable and there seemed to be a jump-change improvement in my foot the following day. So the guideline is to gradually dial in some angle in small increments and you should see rapid improvement in you foot.There may be better versions out there, but this has got to be about the best $22 I have spent, especially for something medical. Cheers! 5Broken StrapI've used this kind of Night Splint for Plantar Faciitus before. It could very well be the same brand. Please understand. Night Splints are NOT comfortable. The purpose is to stretch your tendon. That can be uncomfortable but if you can stand to wear it for a few hours minimum in bed each night it works. At least for me. It appears to be well made but a little difficult to close the connectors but once that's done it wears snugly. This time though the strap broke that puts tension to the bottom of the splint and pulls the foot up. While annoying, it's not a game changer. I requested a replacement from Amazon. Very easy process. Looking forward to the replacement and a treatment that I know from past experience to work. Thanks ! 3Plantar Fasciitis sucks and this brace works!I have had plantar fasciitis for 2, miserable, life changing years now. I have gone through 6 months of therapy (stretching, weights, deep massage, ultrasound) as well as multiple steroid injections in my heel ) which gave me relief for all of 24 hrs), ankle sleeves, $75 and $50 shoe inserts. Nothing worked. This brace is the only thing that has given me any amount of relief. The best way to describe my PF (other than miserable) is that for every step I would take, I would pay for it later. Pain for the majority of the day. This brace let me take my first steps in the morning pain-free in over 2 years. I was shocked! I still get pain after walking on any uneven ground but is so much less than it was. I don't know if I'll ever be truly pain free but having the first steps of everyday not be unbearable is a huge step in the right direction at least.The brace itself definitely felt odd initially. But it was nothing I couldn't deal with if, it had the potential to make the PF govaway. I also read the review in regards to keeping bottom 2 straps on the looser side and top strap tight and have never had the issues with pain and/or numbness. The only thing I would alter on this is to put something with a little tack to it on the inside of the back calf area. I have an issue with the top brace strap moving down on me during the night (and I've played around with tension of strap), therefore lessening the stretch because my heel is no longer seated in the boot. It's only about 1/2 "- 1" but it's enough to have to readjust nightly. Bottom line is this product has changed my outlook on life. Honestly, prior to this I was beginning to give up. Well worth the money, I hope it works for you too! 5Uncomfortable, itchy, and unreturnableI bought this to try to help with my achilles tendonitis. The splint is comfortable for the first 10 minutes, but after that the buckle starts to really dig in to my medial malleolus (the bony bump on the inside of your ankle). The strip of padding that's included on the strap wont slide over the buckle, and anything I tried to stick underneath the buckle slipped out during the night. Loosening the ankle strap got rid of the pressure, but that allowed my ankle to flex which defeats the purpose of the brace.Also, after wearing this for 3 hours my calf and foot got incredibly itchy. Maybe I'm just allergic to the fabric they used, but I figured I should at least put it out there for people with sensitive skin.Went to try to return the item just now, but found out I can't. The page didn't warn me of that anywhere. 1Plantar Fasciitis reliefI wear a woman's size 9 1/2 shoe. I bought this Adjustable Night Splint in a medium and it fits perfectly. Sizes seem to run true to the size chart pictured. I wear it at night and also if I rest with my feet up during the day. It has given me a lot of pain relief from plantar fasciitis.It is of better quality than I expected given the reasonable price. The three velcro straps are adjustable and once adjusted, each has a clip for easy on and off so you don't have to adjust the straps each time. I find it fairly lightweight and not uncomfortable to sleep in. It has a thin rubber sole on the outside bottom so you can walk a bit in it and don't have to take it off if you are up through the night.It seems there is quite a bit of trial and error involved in finding the right things to bring relief from plantar fasciitis. What works for one person might or might not work for another. This splint is working great for me and I would highly recommend giving it a try. 5Better than insurance covered oneMy podiatrist gave me a prescription for 2 of these for plantar fasciitis on both feet. My insurance would only cover one since they are reversible, so instead of paying $110 through medical supply I ordered this. I now wish I would have just ordered 2 of these. It beats out the insurance covered one by a landslide...-It has black padding so it doesnt get noticeably dirty.-The padding is thick and cushiony.-It isnt big, clunky and uncomfortable on your leg.-Easy to walk around on if you need to get up in the middle of the night, has good no-slip on the bottom.-The absolute BEST difference to me is that it has clips so you dont need to adjust the velcro every time you use it. Set the velcro once and then clip on and off.I really think I'm going to purchase another one of these because it greatly outperforms the other from the medical supply.I would definitely recommend this to anyone needing plantar fasciitis night splints. 5
